Mariazellerbahn
This forest railway was situated in the northern part of the Veľká Fatra mountains. Point of departure of the railway
was in spa town Ľubochňa. The operation on this narrow gauge railway (gauge 760 mm) was started in 1903 and in 1904
the line was already electrified. Therefore it was one of the first electrified railways in Europe. The main task of
the railway was transport of wood from forest valleys to sawmill in Lubochňa. Since 1921, after receipt of permission,
there was also public passenger transport. Initially the rolling stock consisted of two two-axle DC electric
locomotives Ganz (output 23,5 kW, weight 5,5 t) and wagons for wooden transport. In 1966 the train operation on the
railway was closed and later the whole line was liquidated.
